Life Updates: Nordstrom Hiatus
Yesterday at my other job, I received a call from Nordstrom informing me that for the remainder of August, everyone with the Beauty On Call title for the entire Northwest had been laid off-effective immediately...I don't normally write about my employers for the fear of losing a position and tying my name to their brand, but considering Nordstrom is a commission environment and a fabulous brand, I felt it necessary to include it into my online persona, which is why I feel obligated to inform you that I am no longer there.
My position there was full time. I was able to learn different cosmetic lines without committing to one (although I was assigned to hair and skin, Chanel and TOM FORD for the duration of my employment) because I like to write about multiple, and they were willing to work around my other job. I was so grateful because I was able to do both. I still am grateful-I learned a lot about cosmetics and it's always good to experience working with a lot of people and personalities and backgrounds.
What will I do now? I have other employment currently that can hopefully use some extra help before the school year to starts back up when I can resume substitute teaching again. I am an emergency substitute teacher. A little bit of my resume includes childcare and education classes in college and experience running childcare programs and classrooms. My mother has been an educator since she was pregnant with me (she was Kurt Cobain's teacher in 1981-no joke) and I always felt comfortable working in education. I would do it full time, but the pay structure for substitute teachers is not feasible; substitutes get paid at the end of the following month. If I work September 1, I won't receive a check for that day until October 31...
I have also worked on and off in retail, primarily beauty or sports apparel, and am naturally good at it, and can be hired quickly...but also am expecting to return to Nordstrom when the hiatus is over if nothing happens between now and then. I remain faithful that this is a good thing and was meant to happen in order to create something better and more suitable for me. In the meantime, I get to focus on laying on the dock, this website, and my other job, which I love.
