Honest Beauty Review

Honest Beauty Review

Occasionally I am sent free products to sample.  This time Jessica Alba's brand Honest Beauty sent me their Everything Primer MATTE Prep + Prime, their Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer and their Lip Crayon Demi Matte.

I tested the primer on the back of my hand and initially it felt like a great matte primer.  It blended into my skin and felt that it would be an excellent base for someone who enjoys a matte finish-I like my primers to be a bit more illuminating and not a matte finish because I use such matte/full coverage foundations.  I do have to admit that I wouldn't put this on my face because after reading the ingredients, I noticed wheat listed.  I am gluten free.  The box also says hypoallergenic.  If you are gluten sensitive, I would check with your dermatologist or doctor before applying to your skin.  Some people are only gluten sensitive from ingesting it, not topically.  I choose to avoid it all together.

The mascara/primer duo looked pretty cool.  The tube is dual ended and the packaging is really pretty and minimal, which I prefer in cosmetics companies.  As far as drug store brands go, this one seems pretty legit; who doesn't love a good two for one product?  Mascara primers are usually the same price as a mascara, this product eliminates the need to buy both.

The lip crayon I was excited to try.  I love lip crayons because they eliminate the need for a liner.  This one glided on nicely, but the color was a bit off for my skin tone.  I always have to wear pinks because I just can't find a good nude (or red)-they always wash me out instead of complimenting me.  The wear of this crayon, however, stays "creamy" feeling when pursing my lips together but appears matte.  It does feel like the crayon is just leaving a layer of oil/wax on my lips instead penetrating in for moisture like the products I am used to.

Disclaimer:  I feel like this review should not bar you from trying this brand.  I promised Influenster I would try and review them as they were sent to me complimentary.  I LOVE Jessica Alba and her Honest Beauty Company products sell really well.  I admit that I am extremely picky with my products and spend way too much on prestige lines (high-end) because I find they work better for me.  I have met PLENTY of makeup artists who prefer their drug store brand products over anything we sold at Nordstrom (or Ulta or Sephora).  The name of the brand itself is Honest, so I felt that I should give an honest review.  I think these products would be an excellent choice over other products sold at Target-I used to use the ELF primer and the Honest Beauty one has a much better base-it doesn't feel like silicone.  So please, if you are perusing the beauty aisles at Target, scope this brand out and let me know how they work for you!
