How and Why I Went From Using Over 30+ Makeup Products Down to 10
As I previously stated, quarantine made me change things up a bit. I used to spend sometimes up to 3 hours getting ready and used well over 30 products on my face each time I did it. My scalp hadn’t been free of over at least 10 pounds of fake hair in well over a decade and Covid calls for cleanliness. I was working from home every day and saw no point in glam anymore. Then when I went back to work, I had to wear a mask which has been really hard for me to do and again felt no need to do a bunch of glamming.
I feel like I was kind of forced to change. With this change, I actually needed to invest in entirely new makeup and find the easiest and quickest way to feel comfortable with my new self (I shouldn’t say new, I should say true and I look exactly like I did 20 years ago just this time with better eyebrows). When I was blonde, I used a lot of tanning product and matched my foundation to the skin tone of a spray tan, so nothing I had matched my actual skin.
I am old school and online shopping is not something I do. I had to blindly guess while ordering new products-good thing I have had my fair share of roles in beauty departments! I remember once using It Cosmetics CC+ Cream in the past on a pageant client and was amazed at the coverage. They came out with a Bye Bye Foundation and I ordered that thinking it would be perfect coverage for my rosacea. It was, in fact, too much coverage. I ordered the CC+ Cream in Light and that was more the consistency I was going for. I used to use a primer and a brush to apply my foundation base-I am now skipping primer and using my fingers to apply the CC. Next I used my tried and true MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation-I first ordered two shades lighter (NC20) and it matched well but made me look too light, so I reordered NC25 and it’s perfect.
After the MAC powder, I use NARS Orgasm blush. Then I use Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Primer stick before using Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil in Medium Brown. I finish my brows off with Benefit 24-HR Brow Setter Shaping & Setting Gel. I forgot to mention before I do anything, I apply Babe Lash Essential Serum which you can actually buy directly from me! After brows, I do one or two coats of mascara-I use MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara and top the entire look off with NARS Orgasm Lip Gloss or Dior Addict Lip Glow.
I spray it all down with Mario Badescu Rose Water in an old Natura Bisse Diamond Mist bottle (perfection). I also added the rose quartz roller into the makeup photo because now that I can’t get more Botox (Covid) and most likely won’t ever again, the roller is actually a must. You can feel it roll out all the tension in the face.
And that’s it! It is hard adapting to the glamless life, but it’s amazing having time to actually go for walks with my dog in the morning. It’s nice showering and washing my hair every day. I feel less stressed having to put on a perfect persona in public. I blend in. I am trying to accept myself without all the fake enhancements. I am a constant work in progress.
